Bereft of great mountains and ski-town notoriety, the high plains of Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Kansas and western Nebraska — these states' forgotten third — is the most overlooked region of Colorado. Stark and windswept, the Great Plains here are as artful as they are forsaken by the ravages of time and the unforgiving elements. Below are a sampling of images in this series, which will flourish as I explore this region.
