When you think of Colorado, what do you think of? Mountains? 14ers? The majestic landscape of postcards, however, is seen from the state line in only a few places. The landscape greeting you at the state line is often unexpected. Among the 41 state line crossings on state and federal highways, few offer views of the rugged mountains the state is famous for. What we see at the border offers a glimpse at what lay further ahead, and those initial few miles into the Centennial State are made all the more interesting by the retro "Welcome to Colorful Colorado" entrance sign greeting you as you cross into the state from Kansas, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico or Oklahoma.

These images represent the view from each of those border crossings.
