Born on the peninsula of Charleston, S.C., and raised on James Island, S.C., I escaped the salty South in 2001, the day after I graduated from the College of Charleston with a BA in communications. I sprinted to Colorado to work as a wilderness guide in the Weminuche Wilderness and then fled to New Mexico where I became a newspaper reporter in Socorro and Taos for four years. After returning to Colorado in 2005, I covered the environment beat for the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel and the Fort Collins Coloradoan, slinked about the terra cotta canyons of the Colorado Plateau, explored all 11 western states and immersed myself in the chaos and beauty of the Front Range. Today, I am a senior science writer for Climate Central in Princeton, New Jersey, and New York City. My partner, Jacob, and I live in Westchester County, New York.
